Christine Larsen "I love the templates"

I find I love the templates and have a file with copies of all of them. Sometimes I go through them and put Post-it notes on individual templates with ideas/titles/themes - ready for possible development into an article ... it often stirs a memory or fits somehow with an opinion I hold, or an idea that's still deep within my 'think tank.'

[EzineArticles] Top 7 Tips to Staying Ahead of the Game

Top 7 Tips to Staying
Ahead of the Game
EzineArticles.com Logo

Don't Be Left in Your Competitor's Dust

Navigating the ins and outs of article writing and content marketing can be difficult for anyone.

There's the task of finding your audience and maintaining their attention, which can be like trying to hold onto a live fish with your bare hands. Then again, there's also the confusing optimization tactics that are touch and go - some will work and some have the potential to damage everything you've attempted to gain.

How's an Expert Author to keep up?

Get a leg up on your niche and stay at the top by maintaining your online presence with these helpful tips:

  1. Be Smart - Avoid the "get rich quick" schemes and tactics that attempt to "game" search engines or advocate paying for views, likes, comments or instant traffic. Build exposure with quality service, products, and content by targeting user experience. It takes time, but as they say, "Rome wasn't built in a day." Strive to build a quality reputation and be smart about the routes you take in your journey.

  2. Expert Authority - Along with building exposure for your business or organization, become a credible and competent source within your niche. Making strong connections and being engaged in the community via social media and networking is very important. If you share your quality insights and advice with others, then they will do the same! Not only do you raise the bar in your niche, your authority draws readers and publishers because you're an authentic source with unique value.

  3. Branch Out - In order to embrace the full experience of your niche, get out of your comfort zone and branch out. Applying diversified channels will help you build a solid online brand presence. Make the most out of every idea through trial and error and discover something entirely new that you can use and toy with. There are fresh and innovative ideas being created constantly. Try different things and branch out to get a little taste of up-and-coming strategies.

  4. Combination of Trends - Rather than change direction in your niche when you see a shift toward social media or mobile marketing, embrace it! Create synergy between them and avoid abandoning one or the other. Use structured data, content marketing, conversion optimization, and even weblog analysis to keep up with the trends and combine forces in your strategy.

  5. Think BIG - It's easy to get so focused on the trees that you forget the forest. It's time to stop thinking small about the same old strategies that you have been using. Look at the big picture - see the forest - and avoid sticking to the small details. Consider the next step in making your platform bigger: how can you create original content that's better than ever and how can you maintain your efforts at a higher level? Before you hesitate, give yourself a chance to do amazing things by pushing yourself to exceed your own expectations.

  6. Showcase Coverage - It's crucial to have a blog or press room on your website as it provides a source for updated content. Put yourself in your readers' shoes and look at your site: Is there a healthy dose of fresh content each week or is it all clumped together in bursts? If your audience sees that you have nothing new to add this week, then they're unlikely to return.

  7. Get Help - As they say, "two heads are always better than one!" You may be the most knowledgeable expert in your niche, but imagine if there were 2 of you! Seek another knowledge leader in your niche - ask questions and learn a new strategy to grow. It's okay to ask for help, whether it be from another expert or paying for tools and services that can make your organization thrive.

Article writing, content marketing, and optimization are becoming more and more complex. With a more targeted focus on authorship, quality content, and NEW content, there's a massive shift on the Internet to become "answer engines." Become the leading source for readers in your niche by getting ahead of the game and staying there using the above tips.

[EzineArticles] Diversify Your Link Profile With Descriptive Anchor Text

Diversify Your Link Profile With Descriptive Anchor Text EzineArticles.com Logo

Free yourself by breaking the link between search engine optimization and anchor text in exchange for a great user experience.

Anchor text is the visible, clickable text in a hyperlink. It's most often used to help connect visitors to additional content relevant to the user's needs (such as any background information the user might need to fully grasp the topic).

Whether by reason that humans are creatures of habit or are intentionally using the same words, the frequency with which you use the same anchor text may be hurting your visibility.

Exact match anchor text occurs when an unnatural amount of keyword phrases are used for optimization. This creates a static link profile and sends up a red flag to search engines: Spam Alert. Publishing the same anchor text aggressively in articles, blog posts, and guest posts both on and off your website appears unnatural to readers and search engines.

Anchor Text Best Practices

First, don't overthink it! Anchor text gets a lot of air time because the incorporation of HTML into writing is still fairly foreign to many writers (check out the additional resources section at the bottom of this post for more information on HTML). What may matter more than the words you use in anchor text is the descriptive language around it. This language should be relevant, compelling, and transparent as well as target readers.

Next, find balance. Try these natural, user-oriented strategies to create an organic mix of anchor text:

  • Co-Occurrence - Natually tie in your brand with the keywords associated with it.
  • General Anchors - Use general anchors such as "click here," "this post," or "learn more."
  • URL - Show readers exactly where they're going by using your URL or web address (lengthy URLs are not recommended).

What Should I Do About My Existing Content?

A moderate usage of exact match anchor text across multiple articles should not hurt your link profile. However, if you find an unbalanced amount of exact match anchor text upon review of your backlink analysis, then you may need to consider adjusting your content. If you find yourself in this position, don't be alarmed! Contact our Support Team for more detailed advice regarding your published articles on EzineArticles.com.

When you lean too heavily in one direction, it seems unnatural. In extreme cases, it may appear that you're using tactics that target search engines instead of readers to create all of those similar backlinks. Create a great user experience by using the above tips to add variety and depth to your link profile while maintaining relevance and transparency.

[EzineArticles] Resources for Troubleshooting Articles in Problem Status

Resources for Troubleshooting Articles in Problem Status EzineArticles.com Logo

Turn Problems Into a Positive Experience

In theatre, it's considered a rite of passage to be rejected before landing a role. In publishing, many authors are rejected prior to publication and use it to fire up their creativity. In business, many entrepreneurs' ideas are rejected, but it's the norm - they're required to take calculated risks for growth.

The key is to see a rejection in a positive light:

Believe in your success, learn from your rejections, take a detour from your initial path, and enjoy what you do.

The Next Step

When your article is found to be problematic, we understand one of the major issues is the time spent. With editors performing quality reviews on each and every submission, problematic articles take up more time than articles ready for readers. We could issue a pink "denied" slip, but we choose a different path: we want to invest the time in helping you strengthen your article writing and content marketing skills.

Hence, we don't dole out flat rejections. We do, however, send you a notification when we've found an issue with your article and place the article into problem status until you're able to address it. Here are the top resources and guides you can use to troubleshoot your article's problem status:

Resources

Add these to your reference shelf:

  • The Editorial Guidelines: These guidelines are used as a quality tool to ensure the articles we receive will be accepted by readers and publishers as well as maintain the overall quality of the site.

  • Member Support: The EzineArticles Member Support team is your best resource. They know all of our resources like the back of their hands and can help you alleviate any frustration as well as save you time. Whether you need some advice on optimization or an explanation of your problem article, they're here to help.

  • General Issues Checklist: For problematic articles that require further clarification, we request you contact our Member Support team. You can try to navigate your issue prior to contacting Member Support using the General Issues Checklist.

Must-See Videos for New Members

The following videos will help you prevent or troubleshoot problematic articles:

  • 2-Minute Approval Tips: Found on the EzineArticles YouTube channel, this video series compresses information to prevent issues and help you get your articles approved on the first submission.

  • The Top 10 Reasons for Article Rejection: This video series covers the most common reasons articles fail to meet EzineArticles' Editorial Guidelines.

[EzineArticles] Make Your Next Article a Great Review

Make Your Next Article a Great Review EzineArticles.com Logo

... Or Your Next Set of Articles!

"I'm starting my own restaurant ... what are the best professional-grade kitchen appliances?" There's a review for that.

"Finished this book ... what should I read next?" There's a review for that.

"I'm going on vacation ... where are the best accommodations?" There's a review for that.

"Who's more peaceful ... Dalai Lama or Mohandas Gandhi?" Yes, there's a review for that too.

More and more consumers are reading reviews. Reviews help them make purchasing decisions, consider using a service, find a volunteer-driven organization to help others, determine whether they should apply to a company, or answer all of those existential questions on their minds. Take advantage of this insatiable consumer-driven need for reviews using the following tips.

Top 8 Review Types

Here are the most popular types of reviews you can write to expand your article portfolio:

  1. Restaurants
  2. Movies
  3. Books
  4. Business
  5. Products
  6. Services
  7. Websites
  8. Travel

Relevance Is Key

There's a catch: You must stay relevant in your niche. By writing content that's not relevant to your niche, you're reviewing on the same level as anyone else writing a review. Take advantage of this opportunity to build your exposure and increase your authority as an expert in your niche by choosing relevant topics.

Who wants to limit reviews to products and services in their niche? Be creative and proactive by considering what review topics would be most informative to your audience. Allow the needs and wants of your audience to be your guide by providing them with solutions and tools. Here are a few examples of how you might write relevant reviews beyond the obvious:

  • Travel a lot on business? Review local businesses and services to help fellow travelers in your area of expertise.
  • Movie or book addict? Review relevant entertainment from your perspective as an expert in your niche.
  • Out-of-town conference attendees? Review the top 7 restaurants in town to help the out-of-town attendees get what they need per your niche's special requirements.

3 Tips to Writing Reviews

  • Original and Informative: As always, target your audience's needs and wants with valuable, unique, and descriptive content that either helps them achieve a goal or solve a problem. In your reviews, emphasize the experience your reader is likely to expect, pros and cons, and any insider knowledge. Provide useful and interesting information that's accurate, balanced, and constructive.

  • Rein in Bias: Unbiased content and authenticity are critical to reviews. Blatantly attacking a brand is unacceptable. Overwhelmingly promotional "reviews" - spammers, we're looking at you - are also unacceptable. Consumers are smart, practical, and not easily convinced. They can see a biased review (whether prejudiced against or invoked favoritism) a mile away. Rein it in.

  • Consider Length: Depending on the type of review, you'll want to ensure you aren't overkilling with too much information that's readily accessible or underestimating the intricacies of the topic of your review. Consider what information the user will need and discard any superfluous details that will crowd their ability to make an informative decision. Best lengths for reviews target 500-700 words - enough to be informative, but short enough for quick digestion.

Don't miss out on an amazing opportunity to connect with new and loyal readers. Help your audience make an informed decision by writing a quality review article using the above tips. We'll even help you out a step further: Download the free Product Review Article Template at the EzineArticles Shop.

If you like it, get the entire 52 Article Templates package (such as the "Top 7 Tips," "Pros and Cons," "Things to Do," "Things to Avoid," and more) to help you quickly build a huge article library to increase your exposure fast.

Bruce Kaler M.D. "... establish your voice and brand ..."

The marketing principle of giving away of something of value for free in order to sell something else, resonated with me. It is also a way to establish your voice and brand in a more structured professional manner than typical social media i.e. Facebook, Twitter, et al. They have their place and are useful to an author/writer. However, the growth of the internet creates a huge demand for quality content. I still think the key is to write "quality content". If it is well written, accessible, and of timely interest to people it will get plenty of attention. EzineArticles is a wonderful reservoir of good content on many topics.
