[EzineArticles] The EzineArticles Blog Comment Policy

The EzineArticles
Blog Comment Policy
EzineArticles.com Logo

Your Comments Are Most Welcome!

Our little blog community is not so little anymore! It has grown into a burgeoning source of information for Expert Authors who want writing tips, need content marketing strategies, and love to join the conversation. So we're taking a moment today to dust off our 7-year old Blog Comment Policy.

This policy includes guidelines we expect to see out of the blog community's commenters. However, you can apply these same principles when managing your own blog comments as well as when you comment on other blogs elsewhere on the Internet.

As always, we warmly welcome and invite you to be an active participant in the blog discussion threads!

In order to have some civility and order to the blog discussion, here are some guidelines we use to moderate the discussion:

Blog Comment Policy Guidelines

Content Orientation

  • VALUE: Your blog comments or questions should have a desire to add meaningful value to the discussion and be relevant.

  • WORD COUNT: Please be respectful of everyone's time by keeping your comments brief (such as under 500-750 words or less).

  • TONE: This business blog discussion is not a democracy or freedom of speech blog. It is our intention to keep the tone upbeat and focus on the positive in a manner that encourages learning, discussion, respectful debate, and knowledge sharing.

  • LONG-LASTING: Remember that your blog comments are not editable after you make them...so don't say anything you wouldn't mind knowing will be online for a very long time.

  • SPELLING/GRAMMAR: We reserve the right to fix common spelling and grammar mistakes, including sentence structure or punctuation, but do not guarantee that we will catch or fix any mistakes that you make. We use American English as our standard, but will normally allow all variations of ENGLISH words in this blog, provided they are spelled properly in your native English dialect. Sorry, we do not accept comments in non-English languages.

Rules of Engagement

  • CORDIAL: Personal attacks (direct and passive aggressive) and flame wars will not be tolerated. We are a professional business forum and expect everyone who participates to keep a "cool head" when the passion of a discussion becomes heated. We will not allow comments that constitute a racial or sexual slur against any person or groups of people.

  • TROLLING IS INTOLERABLE: Comments from "Blog Trolls" will be deleted. A troll is someone who posts garbage to bait a discussion or they only are interested in promoting their website or their client's website; also known as "comment spammers."

  • NO EXPLETIVES: Keep your language relatively clean. Our anti-comment spam software may not even accept your comment if you swear in it.

Logistics and Process

  • MODERATION: New commenters are moderated for their first post and then will be allowed to automatically post without initial moderation; but given enough time, all comments are reviewed by one of our blog moderators to ensure quality and relevancy in the discussion.

  • NAME: You get to list your NAME and (1) WEBSITE URL with each post. Our blog software will automatically remember this information each time you post. Your website URL will be linked up to your NAME, as is for standard blog comment etiquette. Sorry, we won't allow keyword stuffing or the use of targeted keywords for your "NAME" field link.

  • VALID EMAIL ADDRESS REQUIRED: Every comment must include a valid email address. Your email address will be kept private unless you make your NAME as your email address or you include your email address in your blog comments (this is a practice we don't recommend).

  • SIG LINES: We will NOT ALLOW SIG LINES WITH LINKS below your comments. They will be removed if you add them. We consider adding SIG lines with URL's as 'double dipping' because you already received an active link to your name in each comment. Our goal is "one link:one post" with this policy. You can include a title or a closing salutation, but no self-serving active links or sales pitches please.

  • 3RD-PARTY MATERIALS: It is okay to link to RELEVANT 3rd-party websites, but affiliate links are not allowed. The rel="NOFOLLOW" tag will be used for all 3rd-party relevant website links given by any commenter.

  • SUBSCRIBING TO COMMENTS VIA EMAIL: By default, when you leave a comment, you will receive email notifications every time a new comment is left on any blog entry that you commented on. You can unsubscribe at any time. We respect your privacy and will never sell or rent your email address.

Rights and Formalities

  • RESPECT PRIVACY: You may not copy and paste private emails you received from someone else in your blog comments. This is bad form and not tolerated. It's a privacy issue.

  • OUR RIGHT: We reserve the right to delete comments for any reason at any time and to do so without explanation. We may delete comments which attack us or our authors, publishers, members, friends, colleagues, heroes, or admirers.

  • AGREEMENT: By submitting your comments to the EzineArticles.com Blog, you grant us permission to republish your comment(s) without restriction, notification, or compensation. You acknowledge that you alone are fully responsible for each comment you make, including inaccuracies or potentially libelous statements. You will retain copyright to all comments posted on this blog. You agree to not disclose proprietary or confidential information. You grant us the right in perpetuity to use, alter, and/or display your comments however we see fit.

  • BLOG COMMENT REPRINT RIGHTS: No permission is granted to use any comment in this blog outside of this blog without the written permission by the person who posted the blog comment.

  • BLOG RSS FEED SYNDICATION POLICY: If you have a relevant article writing and/or marketing audience that could benefit from the EzineArticles.com Blog discussion, you may syndicate our blog RSS feed only on your website (and/or for your personal non-commercial use), but you may not syndicate the full blog post for each entry ... only the title, summary, and link that is included in the RSS feed may be used. You may not syndicate any of the blog comments feeds as these are for personal RSS reader use only. We may revoke at any time for any reason the right to syndicate our blog RSS feed if we feel your use is not appropriate in our sole determination.

  • FINAL AGREEMENT: Lastly, you agree that we may change our blog comment policies at any time and without notice to you for any reason.

Have a comment or question about any of the above guidelines? Let us know - we'd love to hear from you!

Bruce Kaler M.D. "... establish your voice and brand ..."

The marketing principle of giving away of something of value for free in order to sell something else, resonated with me. It is also a way to establish your voice and brand in a more structured professional manner than typical social media i.e. Facebook, Twitter, et al. They have their place and are useful to an author/writer. However, the growth of the internet creates a huge demand for quality content. I still think the key is to write "quality content". If it is well written, accessible, and of timely interest to people it will get plenty of attention. EzineArticles is a wonderful reservoir of good content on many topics.

[EzineArticles] Stop and Listen: A Guide to a Solid Social Media Strategy

Stop and Listen: A Guide to a Solid Social Media Strategy EzineArticles.com Logo

Turn a Flimsy Social Media Strategy Into a Solid Plan

It's tough.

There's no doubt about it that social media can often feel like you're trying to catch a fish with your bare hands against a rushing river (and maybe even blindfolded). Platforms, algorithms, dynamics, interfaces, access to data - what made sense or was available yesterday is constantly being swept away by today's updates, news, and the frequently changing landscape.

Before you go nuts over "best practices" and are persuaded that buying fans is the way to go, hold up. Your social media success won't happen overnight, nor will it happen because you posted at a specific time based on someone else's strategy. It is different for every niche and every brand: There's no formula or a "one size fits all" strategy.

It takes creativity, time, a little risk, and data to determine what will work for you. Allow this to be your DIY guide to build a solid foundation for your social media platform to grow - we've even included a few reminders to keep you motivated.

Determine Your Strategy

Before you can do anything, there are several questions you must ask yourself:

  1. What are your goals with social media?
  2. What message do you want to convey about your brand?
  3. Does your audience prefer a social media platform?
  4. How does your audience interact on those platforms?

These answers will help you determine what platforms you should stick to as well as the type of content you should create to get the most out of your strategy.

Remind me again: Why I should do this? A strong social media presence will help you increase your exposure to achieve your professional and/or personal branding goals.

5 Rules of Engagement

  • Listen: Your audience is talking and sharing. Listen to them and observe what they like, dislike, want, need, and more.
  • Original: Create content that is unique and has immeasurable value by truly connecting with your readers' emotions, interests, etc.
  • Quality: Typos, images that are "2000 and late," and any other poor quality content is embarrassing. Go quality or go home.
  • Relevant: Avoid creating noise by providing your audience with information that is relevant to them or your brand's message.
  • Tone: Think of social media like business-casual dress at a typical office. It might be okay to wear jeans and lose the tie, but your relationships should remain professional and friendly.

Remind me again: Why I should do this? Social media can help you gain incredible niche intelligence to become a respected thought leader.

6 Resources to Recognize Trends

Social media is all about keeping the pulse of the network. Recognize trends and participate in them to be more engaging and possibly go viral. Examples of trends include memes, topics, hashtags, gifs, viral videos, etc. Many of these items may seem frivolous or like they don't relate to your core message, but using them shows you are present and paying attention. Here are several resources you can start using today to spot trends:

Remind me again: Why I should do this? Social media will help you build loyal fans.

Types of Social Media Content

Resist the urge to blatantly promote with self-serving information. Provide a diverse amount of content that targets the user's interests and the social networking mentality or risk deflating your social media efforts. Try a combination of any of the following:

  • Pictures
  • Provide Opinions
  • Solicit Input
  • Status Updates
  • Tips
  • Ask Easy-to-Answer Questions
  • Links to Your Articles
  • Links to 3rd-Party Articles
  • Links to Blog Posts
  • Videos
  • Promotions and Contests
  • Cartoons, Jokes, and Funny Images
  • Trivia Questions
  • Likes and Recommendations
  • News Announcements
  • Sharing/Retweeting Other People's Social Media Posts
  • Motivating or Inspiring Quotes
  • Future plans
  • Infographics

Also, be customer-centric. Rather than seeking out a customer contact form on your website, customers or clients will go to your social media pages because it's more convenient and they are familiar with the territory. Keep this customer service outlet open and actively monitor your pages by responding to questions, comments, and more in a timely manner.

Remind me again: Why I should do this? A diverse presence on social media can help you generate pre-qualified leads.

Main Platforms to Stick To

It's a good idea to create a profile for all of the following platforms in order to secure your page brand. However, there's absolutely no need to maintain an active profile on all of them. Pick those that have the strongest social signals from your audience (typically 2 or 3 pages) and focus your energy on those to gain a good foothold. When you're ready (and have the resources), then consider activating your presence on other social media platforms.

Remind me again: Why I should do this? Because if you're not already on social media, you're competitors are looking at you through their rearview mirror and you'll struggle to succeed.

Be smart. Have a plan so you don't waste your time and test, test, test. Try different types of content, conversations, and take a risk by jumping on a relevant trend when the time is right. If you use these tips, you'll be looking at your competition through your rearview mirror.

What social media platform have you found the most success on? Did we leave any important information out? Do you have any questions or comments? Click here to let us know – we'd really love to hear from you!

[EzineArticles] Meditation Can Make Your Writing Better

Meditation Can Make Your
Writing Better
EzineArticles.com Logo

Something You Should Meditate On

Meditation has been cited again and again as an incredible benefit that regulates emotion (including stress) as well as improves verbal reasoning, attention span, and can even improve your writing.

Here's how meditation can help you in your writing:

  • It opens the door to inspiration and valuable ideas by unburdening your mind.
  • It unlocks your most original, true-to-yourself thoughts to provide a fresh and honest perspective.
  • It helps you objectively analyze problems and personal obstacles that can be shared with your audience.
  • It improves your memory, which can help you call up engaging anecdotes and insights.
  • It regulates emotions and helps you become more self-aware, which can help prevent writer's block.
  • It makes you a better listener when interacting with your audience.

Ultimately, meditation helps you tap into your creativity and unlock your greatest ideas by fostering a post-meditative state that is reflective (gives thought), creative (breeds innovation), and productive (creates value).

Meditation isn't easy - at first. Don't feel bad if you can't sit still for more than 3 minutes when you initially begin. It takes practice. Allow meditation to become a part of your routine and you will build momentum.

Basic Meditation Tips

To get the full writing benefit, meditate before you write. Meditation will help you become more alert and open your imagination to great value.

  1. Find a comfortable and quiet space. I know, this can be a monumental task. Remember that old adage: "where there's a will, there's a way."
  2. With your eyes closed, sit on the floor (or on a cushion on the floor) in a cross legged position. Rest your hands in your lap or you can choose to rest your hands palms up on your knees or thighs. Alternately, you can lay on your back on the floor with your palms facing up and feet shoulder-distance apart. This is what yogis call Savasana or "corpse pose."
  3. Check for any tension you may be holding. Gently shake your head up and down, left to right to release neck tension. If you're seated, allow your head to rotate forward slightly so the crown of your head is up.
  4. Breathe evenly to relax. Imagine your breath is a calm ocean wave coming into shore and receding back from the shore.
  5. In your mind, repeat a mantra. This can be a phrase, a question, a problem, or any obstacle you are trying to find a solution to overcome.
  6. Be patient and unembarrassed. Allow yourself to be in this meditative state: let go of distractions. Your solutions, answers, and ideas will come to you.

You can meditate anywhere from 5, 30, or 60 minutes. When you come out of your meditative state, don't immediately get up or you may risk a dizzy spell. Simply open your eyes and allow your breathing to return to its normal state for a minute and then get up. If you have meditated while laying on your back, roll onto your side for a minute and then come to a seated position. Once your breathing has returned to normal, feel free to get up.

I have really loved my journey with EzineArticles so far. It's a great tool to use. I often consider the amount of work that must go into this site. If I had to do all that myself, I'd go mad! I am really grateful that sites like Ezinearticles exist, as they make life for not-too-techie authors like me so much easier! And in a strange way, EzineArticles.com is somewhat of an accountability partner for me as well. If I don't post anything for a while, I start feeling guilty! Which makes me write, get noticed; which then motivates me to write more, etc.!
